SCC update - 2013

Let's just pause for a moment and appreciate the talent of our little self-photographer.  It's always fun to find surprises like these on my camera, dad's iPad, etc.

I can't get enough of SCC's smiles, especially when they're missing half her teeth.  She's given the Tooth Fairy a run for her money in the past year.  In fact, I think it's been a lot of stress on that fairy--she's seems to be having a hard time keeping up with it all.
What's new for SCC?  This spring she completed her final semester of Kindermusik with Miss Marilee.  We had a little fiesta with the group she's been with for the past 2+ years.  They performed some of their favorite pieces on the glockenspiel, dulcimer, and recorder.

Now she's moving on to piano lessons--she's had her first two lessons of the summer and is doing great with practicing so far.  It helps to have two extra piano teachers at home looking after her, not to mention that nag of a mom.

SCC had a great school year in Miss Christensen's first grade class.  She really took off with reading and math and was a hard worker overall.

I was proud of her for doing a great job as a narrator in the end-of-year program.  Here she is being so brave:
Something fun happened at the end of the year that I did my best to capture through photos.  SCC was given a day in the spring to celebrate her birthday, since her real birthday is in the summer.  She was excited to take in a treat (popsicles) for her pretend day and that afternoon, she proudly brought home a large envelope full of birthday cards made by her classmates.

Before I knew it, she was organizing them.
This pile of cards on purple paper, that pile on pink paper...

But that wasn't all.  Within each pile, she was separating the cards that showed "a lot of effort" from those that had just been thrown together.  Serious business.  She'd make a great teacher.

If RVC is the queen of crafty in our house, SCC is the queen of artistic and imaginative play.  Her mind is always going.  Here was a tea party/play date she organized all by herself back in January, complete with party games.

Like a lot of kids, she talks about wanting to be an artist when she grows up.  But then she says things like, "Mom, I might not make that much money as an artist, so I might need to take a second job, like as a waitress."  That's some mature thinking there.  She is always drawing pictures for friends and family, and yet she's unconventional--she likes to use her art supplies in a "new way," because "that's what artists do, Mom."

So there you are.  Watch out for this one.  She'll be only seven next month, but she's a girl who's going places.
