on death and balloons

The passing of Wesley, as well as a visit to the Draper, Utah LDS temple earlier this week, have brought about some {simple} discussion about death in our family. TLC has come to understand that, usually, the oldest ones die first; he's been doing a lot of figuring out who is older than whom. He also gives me quizzes throughout the day to make sure I keep up on my number theory: "Which number is bigger: one, five, or one thousand five?"

RVC has contributed a sweet theory of her own. Yesterday, after picking her up from kindergarten and telling her the news about Wesley, I overheard RVC offering these words of comfort to her brother:
"It's okay. He's in the Spirit World. And he has lots of balloons to play with. Sometimes balloons pop, and sometimes they float up to heaven for people to play with when they die."

What a comforting thought! Why do we always try to complicate the mysteries of life when it is really so simple.
