Sometimes it's too hard to catch up, so I think I'll try to paint a picture of where we are right now and maybe some of the catching-up will happen as I go.
RVC will be finishing her day at school in about an hour. These days she gets herself up with her own alarm clock. This morning I went running and came home to find her up, having eaten breakfast, ready for me to do her hair so she could be out the door at 7:45. I love watching her run out the door and up the street, cautiously crossing the street to meet the neighbor boys and make her way to school. Sometimes she gets distracted by who knows what and I stand at the window partly wanting to hurry her along and partly wishing I could be inside her 6- almost 7-year-old head. I hope she had a good day today.
TLC and SCC are busy playing something involving our entire collection of stuffed animals right now. They are up and down the stairs as I write this, though I have to keep sending them back down when they get too loud. It's fun to have them at ages where they play well together, even if it means that, at some point today, I'll have to undo whatever mess their busy minds have created down there. CAC loves to play with the big kids too and I'm sure she would rather be doing that right now instead of trying to take a nap (we met some friends at the Discovery Gateway this morning and she took at mini nap on the car ride home...so right now she's playing in her crib instead of sleeping...I'm hoping she has a little more nap left in her).
Right now I'm enjoying the warm sun hitting me from the window. I enjoyed sitting outside down at the Gateway with other moms while our kids ate peanut butter sandwiches and string cheese. I enjoyed finding a shelving system this weekend that fits in the awkward spot at the end of the hallway and has helped me feel more organized in the "crafts" category and not so focused on the fact that there are a gazillion other spots in the house that need work.
Right now I have the song "Tradition" stuck in my mind. Actually, if anyone in our family has a song stuck in their head today, or lately even, there is a good chance that that song is from "Fiddler on the Roof." The CD has been running in our van for weeks. TLC knows every word to every song I think. Little CAC sings a little "Ma-Pop! Ma-Pop!" for mazel tov and lets out a scream on cue when the grandmother screams in "Tevye's Dream." It just so happens that Hale Theater in Salt lake is running Fiddler this season, so TEC and I are going to take our two oldest. We debated whether TLC was old enough, but I think our biggest concern will be making sure he knows it isn't okay to sing along. And then it might just be a healthy thing to move on to other musicals for a while.
In a couple of weeks, I will be taking TLC to kindergarten registration. He is ready for school and I'm excited for him. I'll have to get used to the half-day schedule again...It will be hard not to have full mornings to get things done. And I guess I better get used to it because SCC will be starting kindergarten the following year. TLC and I still go to speech school every week. He's doing great and it's really neat to see how far he's come. He also beats me at checkers.
I know I haven't said much about SCC or CAC. I'll try to do that soon. I will add that SCC prayed today that we would all have strong bones.
RVC just got home and the kids are out to meet her on their bikes and scooters. I'm off to get after Bea for barking at the mailman. And then to get CAC up...looks like she's had all the naptime she's going to take today.
