three

This lucky girl got to celebrate her birthday California-style this year.

Playing at the beach, posing as a mermaid, having a picnic dinner on the patio at the hotel, then eating cake and ice cream and opening presents.

When you're on vacation, birthday gifts are limited. But SCC didn't seem to mind. Most kids would not be too excited about getting clothes, but with each unwrapped item, SCC would beam, "another beautiful shirt!" and "Look, mom, I can put this in my clothes drawer!"
One thing she had asked for was a "white cake with pink frosting." We found a bakery around the corner from our hotel and returned with this beautiful and delicious creation. I'm still dreaming about the fresh strawberries.

I have to write one funny little thing that happened on our drive to CA. It was late when we stopped in Las Vegas, and we drove along a stretch of the strip so the kids could see the lights. From her seat in the back, SCC's little voice almost whispered as she stared out the window: "Look at that beautiful building! There are jewels all over it. Only mommies and daddies can touch it!"

SCC is by far my most dramatic child so far. She definitely lives life fully, smiling with her whole face when she's happy, giving big hugs and telling you that you are the BEST! And then turn around and you'll see angry and tired moments just as vibrant.

Happy Birthday, Skittle. Hope you enjoy being three.

I can't believe SCC is three. She is so big and grown up.
