2 wheelin'

RVC learned to ride her 2-wheel bicycle yesterday! We had set it as a goal for this spring and I thought it would take several tries and a lot of patience. Who knew a last minute trip to the park with some friends after kindergarten would do it.

What worked well for us, I think, was getting her on the grass and starting at the top of the hill--she got the feel of balancing that way and didn't have to worry about it hurting too much when she fell. I'm sure peer pressure had a lot to do with her success as well. RVC and her friend worked at it for about an hour, riding down and pushing back up...and not really wanting much help from us moms. And I won't deny that between the two of them, there was a bit of complaining along the way. RVC was pretty tired when we were done, but excited that she got it.

The best part was when TEC got home yesterday evening. He had biked home and when we saw him turn into the driveway, RVC ran outside to surprise him with her own riding skills. We're hoping that soon we'll figure out a way to get out as a family...it's been a while. We'll move TLC up to the tag-along bike and put the youngest girls in the trailer. Maybe CAC is still too little? We'll see.
