CUATRO

Happy Birthday to our little guy. TLC turned 4 today (well, yesterday now). I just finished writing him a letter*--something I do on birthdays for each of my kids--and so some thoughts are fresh on my mind.

Dear TLC,

Here are a few things you do that make me smile (or that one day I'll smile about):

  • I can always find you climbing somewhere to get something you want.

  • You love to help me make chocolate chip cookies--more than any of my kids.

  • You love to watch sports on TV with your dad. You even have matching Pirates and Utes baseball caps.

  • Your face creases to one side (like Popeye) when you're telling me a funny story or something silly that you just did.

  • You come up to me several times a day and say, "Mommy, you know what I did-ed?" and then tell me what you did (usually it's something silly, and told with your Popeye mouth).

  • You really like me to look right at you when you are talking to me--you remind me to be a better listener.

  • You let me squeeze you when I really need a good hug.

*By the way, I know it's a horrible thought, but in case I die before my children reach 18, my plan has been to write them a letter each year on their birhtday and give it to them as a gift. Recently, I moved all the letters over to Google Documents because I started worrying that I'd lose them otherwise...in fact, somehow I lost TLC's first and RVC's 2nd letter when we switched over to a new computer, which kills me. While I'm thinking about it, let me just say that I would love for someone to make sure that my kids get these letters if I'm not around.

Happy Birthday, TLC! We wish we lived closer so the boys could play. It sounds like Noah and TLC have a lot in common, except they may carry on the BYU v. Utes rivalry, just like their dads :)
