spring "break"

I've lived away from Utah too long. I forgot that somewhere in these early months of the year--some years it's February, others early March--the weather here turns nice and makes you think that spring has arrived.

But then it snows again. And it's almost worse than having full on winter through April.

This year it's even trickier, because we we went from Pi Day (yes, Pi Day. Did you forget to celebrate?) to St. Patricks and now Easter all within a couple of weeks. All those things that just seem to go along with spring.

And of course, it's spring break this week! Just kidding. This is one holiday that really doesn't affect me still. No longer a student and my kids not being of school age yet, for me "spring break" is just a few days where everyone else around us is taking a break from school and schedules and taking part in fun spring-like activities. I have to say that I feel a little guilty for not having great plans like everyone else, but I guess it's not like next week we'll be back in school, so I guess we're okay.

Yesterday, though, we did take advantage of one of those tricky almost 60 degree "spring" days. Our play group met at Evergreen Park (our first outdoor meeting for the year) to play and picnic. It felt so nice to visit in the sunshine and the kids had a great time.

Also, in the evening, we were able to meet up with Dad, Grams and Papa, and Paul and Tenille (the later of whom really are celebrating Spring Break) for a before-closing outing to Hoggle Zoo. I've decided that if you like to catch animals up and about at the zoo, evening is a great time to go. We were as close as I've ever been to a tiger (this picture almost shows it).

SCC was a lot more responsive to the animals this trip. She had fun showing off her increasingly growing use of words as she repeated the animal names and sounds to us. She enjoyed spending equal time in stroller, on someone's shoulders, or running around like the big kids, all the while scarfing down carrots and prezels.

Today was slightly less fun-filled...only some bike riding in the driveway and a few games. But, we do our best.

There's always tomorrow.
