Hooray! It's spring...almost

The weather has been drawing us outdoors more and more. It would be wonderful to have a back yard of grass for the kids to run around on, but we're waiting until April for that (asuming all goes well...more to come on that). For now, the kids have fun trampling through wood chips and mud (care to see my floors?) and playing on the driveway, which is nice and long and flat--perfect for learning to ride a bike!

That's one activity we're looking forward to this spring. Before we moved here, we acquired a bike for RVC from some friends, but it was needing a new tube for the front tire, or so we thought. The bike has been "resting" in the garage for months, and with this nice weather creeping in, the kids have tried to make do taking turns on the little tricycle and push-along car.

Well, we finally found an evening last week to get to the store and purchase a new tube for RVC's bike and found boy's bike on sale for TLC as well. TEC started fixing the tire, only to find that the old tube was just fine and just need air (silly us...you'd think we would have figured that out sooner...oh well).

The kids have had fun trying out their bikes. We're still at the training wheel stage, but we may be taking them off soon, at least for RVC. TLC is having a hard time with the brake action that kicks in when back-pedalling. On the tricycle, if he hit a point where it was hard to pedal forward, he'd first pedal backwards just a bit in order to give himself a push. Now when he tries that technique, he just stops, and gets pretty frustrated. It seems his legs just need to get a little stronger still.

Here are some pictures. TLC was having more fun blowing bubbles than riding while I had the camera out, but still insisted on wearing his helmet.

And, of course, video shows it all best.

Those bikes look very fun! My kids have been out in the mud this week too - isn't it fun? NOT! Especially since our house has all carpet. Oh, well.
We're all looking forward to seeing you next week!

Yeah for spring! That is one thing I miss about TX--spring comes in January there :) However, I'm sure that in July, we'll be more comfortable being a bit further north.
