home!!!...almost

Well, we made it. TL got to come "home" from the hospital today (we'll be heading back to our real home tomorrow after we drop off grma and gpa Bushman at the airport). Tubes came out early this morning, then there was a 6-hour wait before they could do a chest x-ray to make sure no pockets of air had formed inside. RV and I attended a sacrament meeting at a nearby chapel, and then I left the girls with grandparents to head over to the hospital.

We knew the tubes were coming out today, but learning that we would be moved back down to the recovery floor and that TL would possibly be released today was a pleasant surprise. As the day went on, we could really tell that he was ready to get out of there. Little by little, wires and tape and tubes were removed, leaving the fun rascal we came in with. Once we were settled down on our new floor, the nurse told us that he could get up and that we could hold him...I was ready for that part. He sat up and fed himself some yogurt. Soon Grma and Grpa came with the girls and TL and RV spent some time in the play area on our floor. TL's legs were a bit wobbly at first (that's what a couple of days in bed will do to you), but he had a great time.

Dr. Megison took a look at the chest x-rays and let us know that everything looked good, so then we just had to wait a bit longer to go through all of the paperwork to be released. We are grateful to have the surgery behind us and be able to get back to life. I guess we should feel good knowing that if TL were to have any health problems, they would have found them by now with all the tests he's had. Too bad I'm not more into scrapbooking, because we certainly have acquired quite the collection. We've come to know the Children's Medical Center of Dallas pretty well...it's a great place, and we feel blessed that we were able to walk away from it today being no worse for wear...not all families are so lucky.
