fashion sense?
We've started into a new phase at our house. Lately I've noticed RV taking a little bit longer than the usual amount of time to get dressed. She doesn't like me to be in the room when she picks out what she's going to wear and often even closes herself in her closet to get dressed ("She is almost 4, you know," my friend tells me). It's usually when I've started getting TL and myself some breakfast that she makes her appearance in the kitchen wearing what will be her outfit for the day. She seems to want me to give her some feedback, and so I do, but I try to be careful what I say. I really am pleased that she has become independent in this sense--it makes my mornings a little easier only having to dress two little ones. I love to ask her questions about what she has chosen and hear her explain her reasoning: "Today is a school day and so I chose one of my 'school' shirts," or "these both have stripes..." Actually, most of the time she does a good job. She tends to stick to good-old reliable outfits that have worked in the past. This week only dresses and skirts will do, although I was able to suggest a jumper as an alternative to the swimsuit skirt she was set on wearing. Depending on what we might have going that day, I let a lot of less than ideal outfits go. When I have needed to offer suggestions, I've learned that in the end it works out much better for all if she feels that she has made the decision. I'm sure that this is only the beginning.
