6 months old

We've had a fun weekend. TE was out of town with work for most of the week, so I was very much looking forward to a nice weekend and having someone else off whom the kids could bounce. On Saturday morning we had tickets to see the East Texas Symphony Orchestra Family Concert production of Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf." TE and I had tried, without success, to find the animated version "Peter and the Wolf" for the kids for Christmas, so we were excited to hear about this concert. Earlier in the week I took the kids to the library for a "Meet the instruments" program and concert preview, and we were able to check out a book with the story of "Peter and the Wolf," which we read several times. We also listened to our CD of the same and had fun trying to pick out the different characters' musical themes.

The concert included an amazing puppet show. I had expected to see your typical puppets on strings, but these were more life-size, loosely-"bunraku" style, we're told. Very fun to watch.

The front yard, we are happy to announce, is leaf-free. It took me three days last week to do it (mind you, my work schedule is dictated by feedings and nap-times). RV 'helped' through most of it and was excited to show Dad all our work. TE tackled a bit of the backyard yesterday evening. We're up to 28 39-gallon bags on the whole project, with lots more work to be done.

And, yes, today makes 6 months! for little SCC. She tried rice cereal...wasn't too impressed, but we'll keep trying. Last week she rolled over for the first time. It's funny because R and TL both rolled back to front first, and much earlier, too. SCC could do it with help, but just never seemed interested in initiating the whole rolling thing on her own. Then Wednesday I looked over at her while I was giving R and T a bath and she had rolled across the floor. I guess she was just waiting to roll until it could actually get her somewhere--smart girl.
