When we planned our trip to Virginia, we hoped to also fit in a visit to TEC's cousin Joel and his family. We were delighted when we were not only able to see them, but also spend a few days with them at a beach house in the Outer Banks. We stayed in Duck, NC, near Kitty Hawk where we made a visit to the Wright Brothers Memorial and some pretty amazing sand dunes.
It's quite possibly the best place in the country to fly a kite, so we purchased one to add to the kite we first purchased 10 years ago on our first trip to the Outer Banks. That little one in the picture is ours.
At Kitty Hawk, I was reminded of this quote that had made an impression on me back on our first trip there. I still love it.
We couldn't resist this photo. We knew that somewhere we had one just like it, only with a much younger version of RVC.
Our first morning, I went out to get a view of the ocean.
It took my breath away and I was excited to get the kids up and out to play. The weather was a bit cold for truly enjoying the ocean, but it was so nice to play on the beach. The kids collected amazing sea shells--some even made it home intact.

Joel and Kristin were great to have taken care of most of the food and supplies while at the beach house. It was such a relaxing couple of days, the kids completely entertained by each other. We even managed to watch/listen to [bits and pieces of] General Conference. Kristin and I went running together one morning, something I always look forward to when we get together. She even introduced me to running along the beach. But somehow I failed to take many pictures of our kids playing together. Oh well. Here's a fun shot of the 'unconquerable' cousins.
