Tomorrow, maybe, I'll take a picture of our 2010 Christmas tree.
Tonight, I'll share the story behind it, because it's kind of fun. We always figured that the two small pine trees growing along the side of our driveway would eventually outgrow their location. The strip is simply too narrow and the trees are too close to the aspen trees that tower above in the same spot. Back in the spring or summer we laughed about maybe chopping them down as little Christmas trees. By fall, the trees had grown enough that the idea didn't seem all that silly. Yesterday, we welcomed one of them into our front room and decorated it for Christmas.
The kids had, for the most part, looked forward to chopping down our own tree. They were a little disappointed, though, with what we thought would be the size. Instead of right in front of the window, we'd stick our small tree in a little spot next to the fireplace. We probably wouldn't use all our ornaments, but maybe just choose our favorites. It would still be fun, though... And then next year, we'd take the remaining tree and maybe by that time it would have grown enough that we would get to enjoy a full size Christmas tree again.
Well, something must have happened to that little tree, because once we got it inside and up in the stand, we were looking a pretty impressive tree. Did it grow? Was it a Charlie Brown Christmas tree experience? Who knows. It's the freshest tree we'll ever have, which hopefully means that it will last longer, right? For now, we're enjoying the sparkles and lights, the sounds and smells, and getting excited for the weeks ahead.
