Camping 2010 Lodgepole

We had a great time camping last weekend with TEC's family.  Even though it takes me a good week to unpack and get caught up on laundry (not to mention the time it takes to prepare on the front end of the trip), I love camping.  I love how good it is for my kids.  I love that, when camping, we surround ourselves with less "stuff" and yet the days can go by without the kids really running out of things to do.
Of course, it helps that they have their cousins.

We were the first to arrive at camp this year, so we did have a little while to ourselves.  We unloaded our stuff, took a walk, and visited with the friendly camp host, who informed us that a bear had been sighted in the area and asked us to be extra careful with food, etc.  RVC learned how to make a whistle out of a leaf.
We also got set up in our tent.  Missing this year in our tent was the portable crib.  It was kind of nice not to have that thing taking up so much room and we realized that with our growing family, our huge tent doesn't feel so huge anymore. We were a little nervous about how CAC would do sleeping, especially when our practice sleep-in-a-tent-night a couple of days before the trip in our basement had not gone so well.  But I'm happy to report that she did very well.

Some other things we enjoyed once everyone else arrived:

Two fun days of hiking--one to figure out the trail and one to get it right.  The kids are getting to be good little hikers.  RVC and TLC both hiked the whole 3-ish miles the first day and 4 miles the second day all on their own.  SCC did pretty good as well.  Minimal complaining all around--not bad.

The kids had a blast running around with cousins.  They came up with all kinds of games to play and most of the time they got along.  One of the days TEC taught them all how to play "kick the can," which worked out well despite the span in ages.

Uncle Steve's hammock was a hit, as you can see.

And the kids stayed remarkably clean.  (Kidding.)
