Tonight, on the way to our evening soccer games, SCC said a bad word.
"Mom, SCC just said the D-word," RVC dutifully reported.
I had heard it as well. Dumb is not a word I like my kids to use all that much. I was not aware, however, that it qualifies for the status of D-word. I reminded SCC that it isn't a very nice word to use.
Then, just to avoid any further verbal violations for the evening, RVC proceeded to list off a few other words that, in her mind, are best referred to on a first-initial basis only.
The S-word (I figured she was referring to stupid--also a word we discourage around here).
The K-word (I had to ask about this one. I apparently need to be more careful when saying the word kill).
RVC then paused, asking, "Is guts a bad word?" I responded, "it's not really a nice word to use." That was enough for her...the G-word was added to her list.
Now the list was dwindling a bit, but she continued, "I know there's an A-word, but I don't know what it is..."
I'm grateful for this innocent stage of life.
And I think I'm going to try to use a little more care when choosing my words around here.
