fun at the fire station

We did this back in Texas right before we moved and had a great time.  Fire stations are great about doing tours for kids to see what life at the station is like for a firefighter.  They let kids climb up on the fire engine and in and around the ambulance.

And one thing I love is when they pull out all the protective gear for the kids to see.  I think it's particularly good for kids to see the face mask that firefighters wear.  It can look a little scary and if kids haven't seen it before (or heard what someone's voice sounds like through the mask), they are more likely to hide from the firefighter in a real fire than come toward him/her.

We joined some moms and kids from our ward for a little visit to the newly opened fire station in our neighborhood.

This is how TLC looked for most of the time (hands in pocket--so him these days).  He was soaking it all in.  He also had a good time up in the driver's seat of the fire engine.
SCC was all about answering all the questions this trip.  Turns out she knows a lot about fires and particularly, what to do if there is a fire--or any emergency--on the sidewalk.  The girl is pretty entertaining in a crowd, I must say.  She had fun exploring the ambulance.  When we were touring the living quarters, she came back from the front of the group to tell me, "The kitchen is beautiful, Mom!"  It was pretty nice, actually.  She also seemed to enjoy spraying the fire hose.
CAC stayed close to me for most of the time.  We'll have to come back again in another year or so for her benefit.

This was one of the moms getting dressed up in all the gear and the firefighter demonstrating the mask.

Some of us moms also got to try out the fireman pole.  Fun times.
