Observing the world around her

We've had a couple of interesting conversations with RVC lately. The other night JBC and I were hosting a dinner party, so in the mad rush to get the kids fed and to the sitter, I took the three of them to Wendy's. As we hurried through the drive-thru, RVC watched me pay the cashier and then asked me when I was going to run out of money. I explained that the reason I go to work is to get more money, and that the people I do work for give me money for the work I do. I told her that if I stopped going to work, we would run out of money pretty quickly. She thought about this for a while, and then asked if Grandma and Grandpa were going to run out of money soon, because neither of them work. I explained that they worked very hard for a long time, and saved their money so they could retire. RVC quickly asked when I would be able to retire. Unfortunately, I had to inform her that it won't be in the foreseeable future.

Then, a couple of days later, RVC informed me that we might be sharing our bathtub with thousands of bacteria. I asked her if her mother had told her that, and she said, matter-of-factly, "No, I just heard it on an ad." It's scary to think what are kids are capable of learning from the world around them, both good and bad.

That is a cute post. Kids are very observant! And marketing has a big impact on kids too. David had always told me what a fun place Chucky Cheese was, we had never been, so I asked him how he knew. He told me it was on pBS kids. Duhhh.

What a deep thinking kid you have! What else would we expect with two great parents like you, though?! ;)
