Independence Day

Happy 4th of July. We have spent most of the day indoors, as it has been raining...well...I can't remember the last day it didn't rain. Gratefully, though, we haven't seen the flooding that much of Texas has.

We (the kids and I) started the morning off with a 4th of July breakfast at the church. We ate, visited, sang patriotic songs, and listened to a reading of part of the Declaration of Independence. There was a "Just Say Thanks" booth set up with a video camera for us to record messages for the troops. The kids also decorated thank you cards to send.

TEC returned afternoon from a very quick trip to Utah, where he was able to see two of his brothers perform in a production of "Damn Yankees." I understand that he was able to squeeze in some quality time with family as well.

With all the rain, the picnic we had planned for this evening with some friends has been postponed until Friday--hopefully a drier evening. We ended up spending the evening with the Casas next door--grilling hamburgers and playing almost a full game of Phase 10. They served a beautiful and delicious flag cake (pictured above).

It turned out to be a fun, although firework-less, 4th for us.

We watched fireworks on TV and called it good. :) We ARE going to Waco Friday...so we'll miss the real party. We really want to have you come swim one day next week. (It's our last full week here.) Briel has been begging to swim with friends. Hopefully it won't rain at least one day. I'll talk to you Sunday and hopefully we can plan something then. :)

sounds like you had a nice holiday -- sorry about the rain! (though glad you're not being flooded out.) we had a nice day as well, we got the fireworks, but had to skip the pancake breakfast at the church....
